Roofing Canvassing Script After a Storm

June 9, 2026 · 6 min read

What to actually say at the door after a hail or wind event — without sounding like every other storm chaser.

The opener

Rep:Hey, my name's [name] with [company]. We've been walking the neighborhood after the storm last [day]. I'm not here to push anything — we've already found damage on a few homes on this block. Mind if I take a quick look at yours? Free, takes 10 minutes.
Homeowner:I haven't noticed anything.
Rep:Totally normal — most hail damage isn't visible from the ground. If I find nothing, you're done. If I find something, I'll show you photos and you can decide what to do.

After the inspection

Rep:Here's what I found — [show photos]. Have you filed an insurance claim before?
Homeowner:No, never.
Rep:Most homeowners haven't. The next step is calling your carrier and asking for a hail-damage inspection. I can walk you through exactly what to say, and we'd be glad to meet the adjuster with you when they come out.

Logging the door

  • Pin the home as 'inspected — damage found' or 'inspected — no damage'
  • Photo and circle the worst hits
  • Tag insurance carrier
  • Set follow-up: 'check claim status in 7 days'
  • Set adjuster meeting reminder when it's booked
